Fire Safety and Supported Living Accommodation
Supported living environments present unique fire safety challenges. Residents may have limited mobility, cognitive impairments, or personal care equipment that affects evacuation.
Smoke detection and alarm systems should be tailored to resident needs, while evacuation plans must consider personal evacuation plans (PEPs) for those requiring assistance. Fire doors, compartmentation, and emergency systems should all be maintained in line with Section 10 of the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022.
Regular fire drills, staff training, and thorough record-keeping help ensure residents are protected without compromising their independence. Fire safety in supported living is about balancing protection with everyday life.
